Great post, Catherine. One of the best things I ever did was learn to backpack. In 2016, my husband and I hiked the John Muir trail .... 3 weeks of living mostly off grid (we did have 2 nights in cabins w/ electricity and hot water!). It taught me many things, but one big thing was how little I actually need to survive. Just food, access to water, a set clothes for the day, a set of clothes for the night, and some way to sleep warm. Every morning I was so tickled that we would pack up our "house" and then hike for the day. Granted, at the end I was SO ready for a hot shower, but you are absolutely right... we are resilient and can do so much more than we think.

This is such a good read. I probably think-wonder about this far too often. You should also check out Sharon Astyk. She’s very much into prepping as a community.
