Trump as the Magician, and what it means for the rest of us
What does it mean to allow yourself to be audacious?
Hey there, Dear Soothers. So, I don't know if it is the mid-winter blahs, the pervasive dread about inauguration and Trump, the grief over the LA fires, or, just being a human in these challenging (not an adequate word!) times, but this week I felt, and heard around me, a lot of blah, yuck, heaviness. just want to honor that if you felt that way too — I certainly did.
I'm doing a mix of letting myself feel it and then also doing the things i know improve my mental health, because I keep repeating to myself how i won't let Trump steal my well-being. Exercise, red light, nature, silly animal documentaries, we're doing a rewatch of the Sopranos. Doing whatever i can to remind myself of the Tarot’s consistent message of the 4 of Wands (essentially, bring more joy into your life in 2025) that has come up over and over again. (PS, you might like this essay I wrote a while back, How & Why to Use Tarot Even if You’re Not Spiritual.)
Anyways, earlier this week I was thinking about how crappy and depressed I felt lately (and since November) about the upcoming inauguration. And I figured it was time to snap out of my funk. We deserve a little inspiration, a little hope, a little fun, a little magic this coming Monday to counterprogram.
So I'm decided to host a fun workshop on the same day as Inauguration. As I often do when I’m figuring things out in my biz, I asked Tarot what I should teach about, and they gave me the same card they've been giving me every time I ask what we need to know about why this election happened:
The Magician has been here for me since early November. Two days before the US presidential election, I gathered up my courage, and directly asked Tarot: “Who’s going to win this election?”
I drew the Magician, and every organ in my body that could sink, sank.
I knew then, though I didn’t admit it to myself til later, that Trump was going to win.
That’s because Trump, for better or for worse (it's for worse) is a Magician.
In Tarot, the Magician represents a master manifestor and creator who is not limited by reality or logic or what should be. He creates what he wants to see on the physical plane, no matter if it seems possible or not.
Imagine 15 years ago somebody telling us he would be president (twice!). A washed up game show host, a bankrupt billionaire, zero political experience …. it would have seemed laughable and illogical and impossible.
And yet, here we are.
It wasn’t just when asking who was going to win that I got the Magician.
I kept asking Tarot, “Why did this happen?” The Magician.
“What lesson are we meant to learn from this election?” The Magician.
“How can we navigate a Trump era?” The Magician.
When Tarot kept giving me the Magician around the election results and what we were meant to learn, I finally got it:
The universe wants us to be just as audacious. To believe we can create and have what we want, to defy logic or self imposed limitations.
And not just individually, but collectively, too.
What else are the systems we live under now but visions and manifestations of men from hundreds of years ago? They can change too. They must.
If we can't imagine and create new realities for ourselves personally, and dream big, how can we begin to make our way out of systems that no longer serve us collectively?
The reality we live in now was manifested intentionally by a set of people. If Donald Trump can manifest his way to the presidency, if a bunch of founding fathers can manifest destiny their way across a globe, you can do whatever is on your heart. But we can do it with integrity, soul, empathy, with our communities in mind.
The Ursula K. Le Guin quote comes to mind:
"We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words."
WE. NEED. TO. START. DREAMING. BIGGER.
WE MUST BEGIN TO CREATE MORE AUDACIOUS BELIEFS FOR OURSELVES IN ORDER TO BELIEVE WE CHANGE LARGER SYSTEMS.
(Sorry for the all caps, but I want to make a point, and I’m feeling yell-y.)
So on Monday, 8pmET, I’ll be teaching a new workshop: How to Manifest New Realities, Individually & Collectively. $22, lifetime replay, replay provided.
In the workshop, I’ll discuss…
How I define manifestation personally (it’s probably not what you think or what you might have heard from other new age sources)
My exact 11-step manifestation process that I’ve used to manifest my house, my career, relationships, and now that I’m using around getting a book deal
Exercises, spells, journal prompts and more you can try on your manifestation journey
And we’ll have community, Q&A, and share our own dreams and wishes for ourselves, and how we want to create the next iteration of the world
Let’s gather in community to go over manifestation steps, learn to dream big and vulnerably, and through working towards our own individual desires, learn to use these same steps to re-envision new realities for our communities and collectives.
See you there?
Get your tickets here, $22, and you don’t have to attend live. You can watch the video or listen to the audio at any point later, on your own time.
And stay tuned for Sunday, I’ll have a brand-new essay for you as part of the Co-create series: What feminine energy has to do with your productivity (aka how to "do nothing" but still get stuff done)
